Well, I took a quiz on Buzzfeed to find out what kind of traveler I am…
Intrepid: You touch down and immediately start scanning the horizon for peaks, waves or timberlines. Your best experience of a city is when you’re looking down at it from a tall peak, or toasting your exploits at the end of an exhilarating day.
It’s a fun test created by my friend Chelsea Batten. It only takes a few minutes, and you will find out what kind of travel personality you are. Take the quiz by clicking here.
I first came across Chelsea when I read a Salon.com article, “My Generation, Living on The Road” that really engaged me, and got me excited about getting on the road. I reached out to her and she since has become a friend who gives me advice, encouragement, and tips for life on the road.
I have been traveling for about a month now, but Chelsea has been at it for over three years. She’s been everywhere and then some; meeting people, learning their stories, taking their picture, and retelling it through her latest project The Connoisseurs.
The Connoisseurs tells the stories of ordinary people who believe they don’t have a story to tell. Some people identify themselves by their profession, but she digs deeper with her subjects to bring out their unique stories.
I also believe everyone has a story, whether it’s quirky or tragic. I have come across some interesting people on the road who seem eager to open up. The more I smile and be friendly, I find out information about them I would have never guessed by just looking at them.
I’m even starting to understand my own story as I spend more time alone on the road. Photography has become a way to document each place, and also a creative outlet that allows me to relive these amazing moments.
Chelsea and I are teaming up to put together a photography book on the The Connoisseurs, and next week I will be posting an in-depth feature about her project.
