Dissecting the “Circle of Confusion”
If you’ve ever wondered how aperture and depth of field relate to the size of the image sensor, then “Focusing on Depth of Field Lens Equivalents,” will clear up the circle of confusion and lens equivalency for you.
John Hess of Filmmaker IQ created an amazing explanation on how smaller image sensors equal shallower depths of field. For example, he explains how a 4/3 sensor is shallower than APS-C sensor, and how the APS-C sensor has more DOF than a full frame sensor. He does a great job of clarifying the often misunderstood and confusing “Circle of Confusion” and “Lens Equivalency” in an in-depth way.
The video is almost 18 minutes long, but trust me, it’s worth it…
