Artsy.net is a new platform for artists, fans, galleries, and collectors, that provides visitors with an opportunity to discover, learn, research, and collect artwork. From the photographers’ perspective, we can access a massive amount of information on master photographers like Ansel Adams or Edward Weston, and use it to discover new photographers as a research platform, a place to read articles, to learn about upcoming exhibitions, and even buy artwork.
Artsy is also part of the massive undertaking called The Art Genome Project, which is the art equivalent of a Pandora or Netflix. The Art Genome Project uses a classification system that collects “genes” or characteristics from artists and puts them into a massive database, and works like Pandora or Netflix, in that it allows you to like an artist or artwork, and based on your selections, you are given recommendations of similar artists.
Artsy, along with The Art Genome Project, is an innovative platform that lets you explore different kinds of art and pairs you with artists you may have never heard about. Artsy and The Artist Genome Project is poised to become the biggest online hub for the arts with the massive adoption of museums, curators, collectors, and artists already part of the site.
